Welcome to the Elevator and Escalator Status web page.

This service provides customers with a list of the elevator and escalator outages reported in subway stations. Please note that this listing does not include escalators and elevators in the system that are independently owned, operated and maintained by private entities.

You can already get this information by phone at: 1 (800) 734-6772 (recording) or (718)-596-8273 (TTY).

Currently these pages are updated three times daily: 6 a.m., 3 p.m., and 10 p.m. Over the coming months, by fall, we plan to add additional enhancements including 24/7 reporting, reasons for equipment outages as well as their expected return to service. Beyond that, we are also working on a subscription program that will allow customers to receive an e-mail advisory notifying them of reported or planned outages for specific equipment in specific stations.

Please note: Not all subways have elevators that are ADA-accessible to people who use wheelchairs. Please click here for a list of ADA-accessible subway stations by borough.

Did you know? You can help us by reporting outages. Please call (718) 243-3222, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. At all other times, please leave a detailed message with the station name, subway line and location (i.e., platform to mezzanine, mezzanine to street) of the elevator or escalator in question. We appreciate your help, and apologize for any inconvenience you experienced.
